Techy looking for a job

Posted: April 11, 2011 in Ramblings

There are a lot of things I love about the internet and how tech has made doing business so much better, but one thing I hate about the how tech has affected business is job hunting. Yes, it’s awesome to have literally thousands of jobs applications at your fingertips, and have the ability to apply for jobs in under 5 minutes, but when you can do that, so can everyone else. The other problem is that companies relying on online applications more then they probably should, most do not want to be bothered by a phone call or email. If you call up most companies these days and ask about jobs, they’ll just ask if you’ve applied online and you have to just sit tight. The biggest problem I have is that you have to send your application into this nameless, faceless void that offers little feedback on progress and that is just really annoying. Also, most businesses applications sites are AWFUL, and are way too cumbersome for their own good.

Tech is great, but the loss of a personal touch is a little sad
